Improving Standards in Reading (Year 2 and KS2)
Teaching and Learning in KS1
Year 2 SATs and the Interim Framework
Over the last 9 years, I have continued to be a class based practitioner so that I am able to model best practice for colleagues to observe and learn from, and trial new initiatives. As an experienced teacher with extensive knowledge of Key Stage 1 curriculum, I have supported colleagues with planning, differentiation, assessment and moderation, both within school and across the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.
For the past 2 years, I have also supported my own school in implementation and monitoring of a whole school approach to improve the teaching of reading at Key Stage 2. I have delivered training to both teachers and teaching assistants, and supported good procedures to use through learning walks, assessments, book and planning scrutiny.
Recently, I have worked on developing a new structured approach to teaching reading in Year 2 to support development of both fluency and comprehension skills. I have worked together with teachers, from both my own school as well as a Deputy Head and teachers from another school, to trial and modify reading lessons in order to improve the quality of teaching and raise standards in KS1. The initial trial proved to have been successful and has now been embraced by six schools.
