For over 10 years I have been leading the outstanding music provision at Gipsy Hill Federation. Music has become an important part of school life on all our sites and children access a rich curriculum for music and enjoy excellent performance experiences as well as the opportunity to play orchestral instruments.
I have a classical music and performance background and researched the use of movement in teaching music for my MA in education. I am an associate Colourstrings teacher and encourage the use of both Kodaly and Dalcroze principles in the teaching of music. I have been awarded Classic FM music teacher of the year and have worked beyond my own schools as both an AST and SLE. This has included delivering borough wide training, school to school support and both lecturing and assessing creative arts masters level modules at London South Bank University. Each year I also deliver the music subject lectures to all ITT students at South Bank University.
In addition to my music roles, I have worked with trainee teachers for many years. This includes working in collaboration with Universities for ITT and developing and delivering bespoke NQT training within GHF.
Having been a deputy head for 7 years and often working across a large number of school sites I have been well placed to coach and mentor both middle and senior leaders that are either new to post or looking to take on responsibilities beyond their own school site.
